Rear windshield wipers won't turn off

I have a 2006 GMC Yukon Denali XL and the rear windshield wipers won't turn off. When I start the vehical, the rear wiper is off. As soon as I put it in gear, the rear wiper turns on even though the rear wiper switch is in the off position. The speed control doesn't work. The wiper stays on after I turn off the vehical, and only shuts down when I open the door or the interior lights time out. When I restart the vehical, the wiper remains off until I put it back in gear. At that point I have to shut it off again. I had to pull the fuse to get it to stop and make it home. Any troubleshooting suggestions are welcome. Would like to know if this is a common problem. I am thinking it's the motor (embedded controller with a bad module??).
