'13 Yukon XL Denali 6.2L motor and camshaft pitting

I have a '13 Yukon XL Denali with roughly 126,000 miles. I've found that there is one lifter bad (#7 cylinder). When they went in to fix that lifter, they found a push rod bent in another cylinder. They then went in and were able to get a camera on the cam and found that the surface is pitted and is "coming apart".

 

I purchased this as a certified pre-owned from a GM Dealership here in Michigan in '15 with 38,000 miles. I'm really surprised at this damage and i'm interested in knowing if anybody has any similar instances with this type of damage (is it common to this motor)?. I haven't found much of anything while searching the web.

We had a 6.0 in an HD do it. We replaced the cam and all lifters. Truck has a bunch more miles since then. Kind of a strange thing as the 6.0 in the HD and the 6.2 in your Denali don't have AFM. Make sure the put the lifter retainers in as I suspect that a lifter may have spun in the retainer.

Very common in the 5.3 - more than people think. Seems to be an across the board parts cheapout on these engines lately.

 

Who knows what the '17-'18 models have in store ...
