HPIII

I have a HPIII and am wondering if anyone runs w 87 octance tuning? I have always used 93 but recently ran across several posts where people are saying the 8.1 runs better on 87 octane gas.

OK maybe I should restate my question. Is anyone running the 93 octane tuning with the HPIII tuner? If so, why?

There is hardly any gain by running the 93 octane tuning. Unless you hav the cooler thermostat. I seen a dyno somewhere. That 93 octane tuning only picked up 2 rwhp. I ran the 87 tuning in my 6.0. Couldnt tell a difference.

I have a 160 thermostat, but the HPIII for the 02 8.1 does not have a setting for thermostat. Would you run 93 with the cooler thermostat or stick with 87?

Well, its not going to change the timing for the cooler stat then. So I would jsut run the 87.

I ran 93 on my GMC for a while, then the gas prices hit the roof last summer. I bumped the HPP3 back down to 87 and never felt a difference
