Can you use an Oil Extractor on a 2015 GMC Canyon

Has anyone ever used an Oil Extractor on their 2015 GMC Canyon 3.6L? Wondering because I got a  Manual 6.5 Liter Oil Changer Vacuum Fluid Extractor Pump Tank Remover and even when the tube is fully inserted into the oil stick tube nothing comes out. In fact there is no oil on the tube and it is going down further than the dip stick? Any ideas/help would be appreciated before I return this and go back to crawling under the truck.
