Someone recently told me that my truck ('03 1500 Z71) doesn't come with a carburetor, but that doesn't make sense. Is it true? If so, what should I get.....Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dude sorry to say, JonesNTN is correct. You have fuel injection and throttle body. Not sure about the part of your post that says, " If so, what should I get...." Get what?

Yup! You have fuel injection and throttle body intake, not a carb.

I too am confused by your statement "If so, what should I get". What are you trying to get / do? :flag:

No I'm not kidding. I just got this truck and know nothing about truck engines. I wrote for help, not a shoot down. Help would be appreciated.

I am not trying to "shoot you down". I will say that if you don't know anything about engines, you should try to learn before attempting any enhancements, modifications. However, I find it hard to believe that you have never heard of Fuel injection. Read the truck manual to start with.

Of course I've heard of fuel injection. I've also heard of carbs. I'm trying to learn, so bear with me. Someone said I should get carbs, therefore, I am asking advice about them b/c I didn't think that I needed them. Capice? I already installed a K&N FIPK, but could use some more help.

They meant Carbohydrates.

I think he was trying to be funny.... It's usual to include a smilie to indicate that, though :flag:

You are right in thinking that if you have fuel injection, you don't need or want carburettors. Fuel injection is much more accurate than carburettors at mixing fuel and air, so almost all (and maybe all) newer cars and trucks use fuel injection so that they can comply with emission standards.

Whoever suggested you might want to switch your truck to carbs was probably also trying to be funny (and was just as bad at it! :flag: ).

Broadly, the kind of people who hang out on these boards mostly at least think of themselves as 'gearheads', and a small but vocal minority have no patience with anyone who admits to not knowing much about cars or truck. We call them trolls..

The rest of us would be happy to answer your questions....

You shouldn't get anything (well, maybe a copy of "Gasoline Engines Simplified" from your local library).

Your truck is fuel injected. It doesn't have a carb, and you can't put one on it. Fuel injection replaces carbs, just as electric lights replaced candles. You can't put a candle in an electric light socket and turn on the candle from your wall switch.

Pattersin86,

Well from your responces we know,

You have a 03, 1500

You have fuel injection

You have an FIPK (Althought that should have given it away to you that you have Fuel Injection and not a Carb hence Fuel Injection Performance Kit (F.I.P.K.)...Sorry)

You can not add Carbs to the engine Nor would you want to

So what do you still need to know? If it was to find out if you need carbs to replace the fuel injection then I think that was answered. Is there something else you are trying to achieve?
