K&N Oil Filter

Recommended Posts

My Bro in-law said he started running a K&N oil filter in his truck. It costs about $10.

I run Mobil 1 in my 6.0. Does anyone have any thoughts on the K&N oil filters?

In all honisty, if you use the cheapy Fram and the cheapest dino oil and change it at 3000 miles, the motor should outlast the rest of the truck. The better oils and oil filters pay dividens with longer drain intervals, like if you go by your 'change oil' light.

For my truck I use purolator filters and synthetic blend oil. The last oil change was at the 6750 mile mark. The oil life monitor said I had about 5% left.

How do you find out how much oil life is left? Is this a new feature on the 03's?

I use Mobil 1 5w-30 and have used Fram and Mobil 1 oil filters.

Personally, I think Mobil 1 is an excellent product to help the life of your engine. A while back I helped a buddy pull the heads on a 1990 Mustang GT. It ran Mobil 1 from the day it was delivered and after 130K miles, the inside of that engine was CLEAN

How can I tell how much life is left in my oil?? I have a 2002 HD 6.0. Does the oil life system tell me on this vehicle?

THANKS!!

From what I have read on bobistheoilguy.com, a lot of individuals run the K&N oil filter. It has a higher flow rating than the Mobil 1 filter. They go as far as to cut open the filters and inspect them as well.

Bob, the owner of the site made his own tester to be able to test oil filters and the input pressure and output pressure. You can see how this works on that site. It is interesting to see and read all of this.

So from what I can tell it is a good filter and with the high flow rate your not starving your engine per say as much as you would be running a more restrictive filter like Mobil 1.

Me well you can guess what I run. Amsoil filters.

Hacksaw, '02 HD, I don't thing the readout for the oil life monitor is new for the '03 trucks. You do have to have the Drivers Information Center (DIC) wheel controls. It comes with the steering wheel radio controls. All new body style trucks have the oil life monitor. If you don't have the DIC, when the oil life monitor determins the oil needs changing it will turn on the 'change oil' light.

If you are interested in how it works go to www.gm.com and search for oil life monitor. Here is a link to one of the articles.

$10 for an oil filter is more then I'll pay, regardless of what it offers. I run M1 and use the AC/Delco PF59 (about $3 on sale). I change the oil at 5K, so I figure the oil/filter combo I'm using should be more then adequate.
