Grabbing Power for CB Radio

I'm just wondering how you people with CB Radios grab the power for the CB.  I am going to get the Cobra 19DX3, so hopefully someone knows how I can connect power to it.  I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy if that helps.

chevy4x4trucks, how did you hook up the power to the cb?

cdnav8r I just put a post up in the aftermarket forum about the same thing but for my 95 Blazer.  I want it wired up so it's on when the trucks on & off when the trucks off.  What is a MBEC, what does it stand for?

Ok, I'll take a look into this.  I've never done any electricals on the truck myself yet, so maybe its a good time to start  :D

btw, this may be a newbie question, but what does MBEC stand for?

cdnav8r Where are you going to mount your CB?  On my 95 there is a little slot about 1" tall and the width of the factory radio right below the radio.  I was thinking about installing it there but that would involve chopping up my dash which I'm not to thrilled about doing.  I found a perfect spot for it.  It is going to be mounted on the bottom of the dash tilting up.  The far right side of it will butt up to the 3 power outlets so I will be able to use all three.  I am going to get two black L-shaped brackets, one for each side, so screw into the holes on the side of the CB and into the dash.  My CB is a Cobra 18WXST, the exact one that Chevy4x4Trucks had.

I'm not sure how my dash compares to yours, but there isn't a whole lot of room:

I am thinking of two places.

1) At the bottom of that picture, where the flip down ash tray and 12V socket is, I was thinking of mounting it somewhere there, and having it on a swinging bracket so it would be adjustable.

2) I will probably go with this idea.  In my center console between the driver and passenger seat I have space for cds.  I was going to remove the CD holder and mount it inside there.  I don't have a pic of this....and I'm not sure if you have the same setup.  If you do, you would have the cd holder in the center console and above it is the coin/change slots.

You have the new dash compared to Joe's.  I don't think there is any place within the dash itself you can put it unless you have a CD holder you really don't use.  That's where I'm going to put mine.

See my wiring tips in Joe's post in the aftermarket thread.  CB's are real easy, one power, one ground, one antenna.  Then if you want a P.A. under the hood, that's one more wire.  :D

yeah, I'm just going to use pull out the cd holder in my center console to fit the cb in there.  I have already taken it out to check how much room there is.  It seems like it'll be enough, but I'll have to find a way of hiding the wires coming out (ie. power, PA and antenna cables).

I read your post in the aftermarket thread.....thanks for the tip. bigthumbup.gif
