K2 Frame Rust - Metal Experts Please Step In

Been looking for a 2014-16 Silverado/Sierra.  I see lots of the frame and Kframe rust that we all talk about here; so much more frame rust than my very well used 99 Tahoe...just crazy.  It appears to be surface rust, and I understand that in some newer bridge work, they allow a rust patina to form and that the rust patina has the effect of "protecting" the steel by protecting the zinc layer underneath the rust (weathering steel).  I also understand the three ways to "zinc" steel (zinc paint [good], metalize [better] and galvanize [best]) Lastly, I have read most all the wax, Daubert Nox, TSB 14002A, and similar threads.

Question 1: Has anyone tried using a rust converter (to primer) with any success on a K2 frame?  I have used those before on receiver hitches etc with excellent results.

Question 2: If one were to apply a rust converter, would something like the Vaper 19419 Red Spot Spray Non-Aerosol Sprayer http://a.co/f2r2SrG be a good choice?  or use an airbrush?

Question 3:  Since the Toyota Tacoma frame recall, is the collective "we" just overly paranoid about frame rust?

Thanks!

I've been touching up my frame rust with permatex rust converter spray followed by black frame spray paint and finally the Daubert product. Results are ok.  My 1 year old truck needs more rust maintenance than my 10 year old wrangler

My 15 has no signs of premature rust.  It also doesn't appear to be a wax type coating that  I often read about on this forum.  OP, keep looking and no need to settle for a rusty vehicle.
