Rocker Panel & Cab Corner Fix/Replacement!?!

So my rocker panels and cab corner passenger side is rusted out, I was thinking of doing the slip ons but don’t have a welder and don’t want to tear it all out just to find more rust, which will drive me insane and I’ll want/have to fix that rust too.

i was thinking of just doing something i saw on YouTube of a guy who just added heavy duty tape to the holes and paint over them with bed liner and then paint it to match the truck.??

I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 Z71 with 230,000 miles and had the transmission rebuilt a couple years ago. I’ve been doing some tune up and maintenance work, changed the plugs and wires, and so I want to keep the truck for another few years at least, my goal is to get it to at Least 300K miles. So I guess that’s my dilemma, do I just do the cosmetic fix with tape or should I really tear out the old rust and replace it with fresh metal? Again I’m just trying to have it last a few more years.
