went to the dealer yesterday

They tried to rape me on my trade(like I knew they would). I am getting a 03 excab LT Z71 at cost($31,581 plus tax), but they only wanted to give me $14,500 for my truck! I just got up and left. I guess if I want to get a new truck I need to sell mine outright. I should be able to get $19k. But man those 03's are SWEET, I thought I was in a Caddy!

That seems low, even as a trade. I am curious, did they go out and inspect/start/drive your truck or just look in their book?

I know how you feel but the used car market is down. No body is really buying used. (At least not in my area) I had a 00' ext cab 4dr in great condition and I couldn't give it away! Everyone’s buying new with all the incentives and such! Also $31k is way too much I have a 03' crewcab 4x4 with all the z71 options except ranchero shocks and paid $27k listed at $37k. Of course I took the rebates but it worked out better for me. I financed for 4% should cost me $1500 if I only make min payments. (Which I wouldn't)

Good luck hope this helps

Sorry, $31,581 was the selling cost. I get the 4k rebate or 0%. So the final price would be 27,581 + tax if i take the rebate. I know the used car market is very slow now, but that is still a lowball price. I work for a finance company and we do some car loans, so I know the loan/book/retail value and that was just way to low for that nice of a truck. They did do a test drive. I was also leaving my toolbox and FIPK on. I guess I'll put my truck in the Trucktrader and see what happens.

Dealer's have always quoted at least 10% below low wholesale for trades. But the big smack in the face is with all these big rebates and selling at cost, has driven the market down on the used trucks. It's a riptide down through to the older trucks and their downed value.

The value books like Kelly and NADA still haven't seem to have caught up to the actual market. They'll list a two year old truck as dealer selling for $23K, so if you buy new at cost + incentives that brings you to about $26K. 36K miles no warranty, or for $3K more get 0 miles 3/36 warranty (and no fries under the seats).

The $23K does follow the basic depriciation of $5K when you sign and $1200~$1500 every year. Now with the incentives on new at $4K you have to add that in the depriciation and now that dealer price for a two year old truck should be $19K and wholesale would be about $14K~$15K.

I got 18,000 for my 02 Sierrra Z71 RCSB with 20,000 miles, you will never get 19,000 for your truck, You can get a new one for d**n close to that right now, Its not a sellers market (for us)

I agree maybe you'll have better luck selling it. I know I tried to sell my 00' ext cab for a couple of weeks even offered it below book and no takers.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
