Westers PCM for the 6.0L

I just ordered one for my brothers 01 Chevy 1500HD CC SB and was wondering what kind of MPG increase have you seen, and is the power increase real apparent? Thanks.

I should get mine ASAP from Westers. It shipped late last week...

Lyndon told me 1 MPG's increase is not uncommon, but it all depends on my driving style and conditions. He said the power release would definatly be noticable. I'm sure alot of it is due to the removal of the torque mgmnt.

I have the 8.1 and for the first time ever I got 11.5 mpg on the first tank, that was around town and short trips. I have never gotten above 10 since new.

Well we got the PCM from Lyndon today, it took me about 10 minutes to remove and install. Then I started my brothers truck, it took a few trys before it would run on it's own, then we took it for a test drive. We noticed some slight pinging at WOT and I could tell the tranny shifted better. We proceded to lock the speedo on 100mph several times in the span of 10 miles, but I didn't see the kind of tire spinning low end power I was expecting, in fact I couldn't really see a whole lot of difference from a dead standstill. So I called Lyndon and he said it would get better, it would just take some more miles for the PCM to relearn. I said no problem, I just guess I was expecting to much to fast, I have a tendency to do that.

Mine is still learning too... The pinging is 98% gone with about 80 miles on the PCM...

I was lighting the rears up this afternoon for some big . It wouldn't do it when I first installed it... I also removed and cleaned my MAF since Lyndon recommened it...

Off idle throttle responce is very crisp, and I'm becoming more impressed as the truck relearns it's commands.

Lyndon had me remove it and clean it with brake cleaner then let it dry and reinstall it. There is a clip on the wiring harness that has to be removed in order to unplug it.

FYI - I talked to Lyndon last week when I ordered mine. Should get it later this week. He said that from his experience the re-learn goes much smoother and quicker if you install the PCM when the engine is cold. Some of the posts on other sites seem to confirm this as well. One guy had no pinging at all.

This is what I am going to do when I get mine.

1) Install Westers PCM on cold engine

2) Start truck and let it idle until it warms to temp.

3) Shut down for 5 min.

4) Strart, put in Drive, apply e-brake and let idle for 10 minutes

5) Drive
