Which is the best lift?

Alllllrighhhty then, I am finally convinced that a 6" lift is the olnly way to go after looking at all the pics of the sweet trucks on this forum. So for someone that has no idea of what to do once they decide they want a lift, what is the lift to go with???? I know there are tons of manufacturers out there but which one has the best rep and which should last? Thanks for the info and moreso thanks for the pics!!!

Best depends on how you are going use the truck. If it is for on-road use, most any of the lifts out there will work. When I started shopping I learned that different lifts use different methods to get the advertised height. For overall strength and reliability, I believe a subframe is the best way to go up front on the Chevy HD trucks. If it is a 4WD truck, the subframe keeps the CV angles the same as stock which will help reduce wear. See what each kit uses and decide what you want. Fabtech increases the track (makes your front wheels stick out further). RCD's kit uses a spindle that changes the driveline angle in front. Superlift and CST use a subframe.

If you are going to do off-roading, you should check out CST. They cost a little more, but they make the best lift you can buy for these trucks.

Really just on road use only with the occasional off road party. I am partial to the 315 goodyear mtr and 16x10 welds 8's and am looking to just have a solid setup. As far as the specifics, you are talking a foreign language. It is a 4x4 crew cab with short bed. best overall choice? By the way who is CST?

Id say go w/ Superlift or Rancho! Both are very strong and dependable kits. Youll have to have a replacement front drive shaft w/ the Superlift. I have the Rancho on my 1500 w/ 16x10s and 315s, I dont rub, but probly would off road! Im not real up to date on the HD kits, but you cant go wrong w/ either of these. CST is just too much money to me!

CST is at http://www.cstsuspension.com/

They make really nice stuff, but it does cost a little more. As far as what you get for the money, design, quality and finish that stand out. If you look at the kit up close you will see why. Whether this is necessary is for your application is debatable. But if you want the best lift, I'd say CST.

The subframe moves your stock front suspension down the amount of the lift. This keeps your stock suspension geometry the same, and also moves the front differential down, so your 4WD parts will not be a funny angles. A couple other kits use spindles and that changes a lot of you factory angles, this can cause extra wear and also has more limits on what wheels you can use.

You don't need to change the driveshaft with the CST HD kit. Not sure if the Superlift kit requires it.

Thanks for the info guys and here is the info I have been able to come up with. Unfortunatly, 4wheelparts, beleive it or not, is the only place to lift my truck within a 100 mile radius of my hometown. So after talking with them for awhile they say that the best lift is a fabtech even though they do throw the front wheel widths out a couple inches. That aspect alone concerns me and makes me want to go to another lift. So the next on their list is the procomp yet I have not heard too many people talking up this lift and say that 4WP talks them up because they own them or something. Instead everyone seems to be hyping up RCD for silverado's which they do not sell. So now I am in a pinch, and what to do? Are all the kits relatively the same and I shouldn't be sweating the decision so much. Just go with the fabtech and be done with it? I wonder if they will install the RCD if I bought it elsewhere and brought it to them?????

--By the way: I know alot of you like the superlift but the guys I spoke with said that it was the last on his list because he didn't think that the quality of the parts was nearly as good as the others. I'm sure many of you will have replies to that!

That guys feedin you a line of BS and just pushin the Fabtech since theyre probly overstocked! The Superlift is a great kit, the reason hes saying that is they are a little more involved of an installation! Id be findin somewhere else, or tellin that guy to pull his head outta his a$$!!

I like my fabtech so that's that....I know a guy with superlift, i'll be it on a ford exploder, but his truck fails before the lift does......I dunno about the track of my truck now with the fabtech...the ride is better now than it was stock, my tires do stick out farther than they did before, but that just makes it more fun in the rain and gets my truck dirtier off road.

You should take a look at the Superlift and any and all lifts you're considering before you make your decision. You CAN'T go wrong w/ the Superlift or Rancho kits. 4WPs promotes ProComp b/c they are involved with them. That's why they always have a buy 3 get one free deal on ProCrap, woops I meant Comp, tires/wheels/lifts. I researched this for a year before I decided on the Superlift, but the 2nd runner up was Rancho. The other thing to consider is price. I think the Superlift kit is a decent more $$$ than some of the other kits on the market.

I would go with the Superlift. You can find them occasionally like I did with a free driveshaft with the kit and it is priced reasonably also. Havent had any problems with mine. Plus you get dual front shocks.

I spoke top a guy here about his lift on his Silverado 1500, 2001. I dont have a lft yet but have been looking real hard and been doing a little talking and reasearch. It is a lot of money and I want to make sure I'm going to be happy with it.

Here is what I found out. He went to a shop and told them he wanted a 6" lift and 35's on it and didn't want it to rub. First they sold him a Fabtech. The 35's rubbed on the Fabtech and under some light 4-wheeling the suspension flexed too much. They had him change out the torsion bars for a special kind and it didn't work either. So I believe they took that off and sold him another lift which I believe was the Pro Comp Lift. That ended up tearing his CV boots first on one side and then the other. Probably due to the changed angles. All said and done I believe he spent an additional $1600 for torsion bars he did need, which he removed later, new half shafts because they ripped, the labor of pulling one lift off and the other on, the difference in the cost of the two lifts and the labor charges for the two half shafts. Needless to say he still is not happy and wishes he never raised it.

So with that said, I don't think I'll be buying a Feb Tech or the Pro Comp Lifts.

I have heard good things about Superlift, Rancho and RCD. I heard the way to go was with the Rancho 6" and the 35's but I have not cut out Superlift yet.
