Fuel Mileage While Towing

Recommended Posts

Hey I’m looking at getting a new travel trailer. I would like to hear what everyone is getting for mileage and what they are towing. I am curious how much weight affects the mpg or if it is all aerodynamics of the trailer. My tow vehicle is a 2012 gmc 3500 6.0

It will also depend on your gearing... being 3500, you should have 4.10?

I have 3.73s and it won't be a good comparison...but wind resistance is more an issue (while rolling) than weight in my experience.

Yes they are 4 10s. I though they only came with 4 10?

What are your rpms at 60mph?

At 60? Ummm, under 2k, probably closer to 1800? I'm only 2k-ish at 70mph.

It been a while since I actually paid that close of attention to it...and I drive it nearly every day!

9-11mpg with a trailer.  I got 10mpg with my 6.0 pulling about 7000lbs of trailer and Massey Ferguson tractor.

3.73's turn 2000 RPM's at 70. With the 5.3 engine, I get about 8 pulling a 30ft TT. I get about 9 pulling the 24ft boat, and about 10 pulling the 16ft enclosed trailer.  Depending on how they are loaded, all weigh in between 6500 and 10,000 pounds.

I wonder if the 6.0 in a 3500 with 4 10s would be very close to that
