Looks like a great rig... 

My wife and I are in the market for a new camper ourselves- though at a different point in our lives. We just brought our first of several kids into the mix!

We love camping and have done it since we met; our current camper is a 32 foot TT. We are both teachers and basically live in the camper each summer. So I had a few thoughts for you...

WD hitch- Which hitch did they sell you? I didn't see you mention the name. I personally run the Camco R6. Its high end- but not the highest available and most certainly better than Harbor Freight Specials.

Tow mirrors; If you are doing any trips beyond an hour (or so) I'd say new mirrors are a must. I purchased mine through amazon and installed myself. (I'll link to the video I used to guide me) In my opinion you are better off getting fixed mount mirrors than snap on. I find with these mirrors I rarely use the inside mirror even when not towing, and they extend an additional 6" when I am.

 

When you head out I would recommend that you travel WITHOUT any water or fluids in your tanks. It adds A LOT of weight to the trailer. AND the fresh water tank is usually located to one side or another, creating an unbalanced load. Much easier to tow and fill at your destination. Generally you don't drink this water anyway- so a fill up even at a state park should be ok. I only travel with water in the tanks if I know there is no place to fill up on the way. (Although with the baby we are thinking of having a small amount in the tank for pit stops that may include a bathroom break.)

 

Finally- The awning... We learned the hard way, when you leave your site close the awning or drop it ALL the way down- even if there is no rain in the forecast. A broken awning is no fun to come back to. Just sayin'

Thank you for your suggestions and advice.  I was also a teacher and know how precious summer months are with your own children.  When our kids were small we owned a small travel trailer for one summer.  Two parents, three kids and a dog in a small single axle '80's trailer didn't make for a positive experience!  Fast forward 25+years, my wife, small dog and I just returned from a four day trip in our new trailer.  We loved it and all  your tips have a lot more meaning!  The Winnebago Minnie is only 7 ft wide so tow mirrors aren't as critical as if it was wider.  However, tow mirrors are definitely on my list.   We will travel with a minimal amount of water.  We felt that one of the major advantages of taking a RV on a long trip is not being at the mercy of unknown rest areas for bathroom breaks.  Seniors, like young children, can't always wait until the "next stop"!  The hitch they sold me was the Blue Ox SwayPro 750.  I really don't have anything to compare it to but it has good reviews and I have no complaints.

      How to Tune 6L80 Silverado transmission

      New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.

      It comes with directions but yes, generally, it's the same.  Also, get you the dipstick stuff to install dipstick so you have one.
