2005 Sierra blend doors problem - how hard to replace

So, I have the manual dual-zone climate control in my '05 Sierra dump truck. What I'm noticing is that the driver's side stays set on hot even when I select cold. The pass side seems to work normally. I also notice that the vent selection (defrost / floor / face-level vent) is very slow to change and needs repeated switching. So I'm assuming at least one temp blend door motor is bad, and the door that controls vent selection is bad. How hard is it to replace these? Complete dash removal? Are the motors expensive? This is my first GM truck and I've finally got it running good, so now I can work on the smaller things.

Thanks starman, I'm well aware of what a blend motor is and how to replace...just curious as to location and difficulty and price of the ones specific to my 2005 GMC. That tutorial was a bit generic and not necessarily specific to a GM truck.

Search youtube, plenty of videos already out there. Also there are many threads covering the subject on the site.

 

The posted video above does cover your application for your first listed problem.

 

Actuators can run about $75 or so, can be found cheaper, but consider quality. The actuators that are located in the upper dash will require dash removal.

 

There is an actuator above the gas pedal, I can't remember for sure if it controls vent selection. It's been a bit since I dealt with these

You may want to try this first

 

1. Disconnect the battery for 2 minutes

2. Reconnect the battery and start truck. Let it run for two minutes without adjusting any A/C  knobs.

3. Shut the truck off and let it sit for 10-30 seconds 

4. Start the truck 

 

this may help but not 100 percent sure.
