2010 Silverado aftermarket radio upgrade

Recommended Posts

The factory head unit was a double din, and wanting to replace it with an aftermarket head unit. So the new unit needs a constant power source and then and key on power source, and I assume the old one does as well. Constant to keep memory and “key on” just so the stereo turns on. Looking at the pin setup on the 2 plugs from the old unit, I can’t find the “key on” power. I did a volt check on the wires with the ignition on, and only found a 2volt reading on a yellow wire, which I think is the dimming function. Of course found the constant power pin/wire.

Any help is appreciated.

your vehicle uses data communication to turn on your radio, there is no switched power. a integration module is needed to keep data communication in you vehicle. it is low voltage class 2 data. gm started that in 03 on the trucks. you locale best buy or amazon has all the parts you need. and remember best buy price matches amazon.

if thats the case then you would hard wire your switched to a acc./ign. for radio turn on. there should be a switched power in the junction box where you would wire a trailer brake harness, to left of the brake petal. make sure you fuse that wire also.  things you will lose with that plug would be the door chime and turn signal "click", don't know if you noticed that the sound for turn signal goes though speakers on these newer vehicles. so yes that plug would work.

look at this

I Never use those Modules on '03 to '13 Trucks. I've seen plenty of them short out and cause the data line to go down preventing the truck from starting. I just wire up the radio to a constant power and ignition source.  You cn usually find a plug and play connector with out the module.  You just lose chimes, turn signal nose and Onstar.
