Rear Brake Caliper noise

Recommended Posts

Ok for ahwile now I have had this annoying noise in the rear end. Traced it down with the help of my dad to the rear drivers side caliper. When it grabs it makes pretty loud noise like something is getting caught or is hanging up. He said it sounds normal but the other side is quiet. Is there any adjustment? Anyone have a similar problem? Any ideas? Also at 18K miles i had the rear brakes (pad and rotors) changed under warranty for a squeak (not related to this). I now have almost 38K.

Thanks

I had a similar noise in my Tahoe. I pulled the rotor and used a scotchbrite pad on a drill to scuff the rotor on both sides. Then I used some sandpaper to take off any glazing on the pads. Reassembled, went through proper bedding procedure and noise is gone.

Hope it helps.

I had the same problem on my 2002 Sierra Z-71. I took it to the dealer and they sanded the pads and "lightly" surfaced the rotors.

All quite now.

Thanks guys for the advice. Today I took off the tire and took a file and some 600/1200 grit sand paper and sanded off some of the surface rust (some on the edges was sticking up pretty high and i think that was the cause of the noise). I havent been out driving other than backing it out of the garage and there wasnt any more noise. Tonight ill see if it is totally gone
