I was on a 2 lane road that turned into a 1 lane road, and I was in the lane that had to merge. I was sitting at a light next to a Ford Expedition. It's about 100-200 yards from the light to the 1 lane merge. The light turns green and I take off normally, maybe a little faster because I wanted to be in front. Mr. Expy decides that today's not the day he will let me in front. He floors it and now is next to me leading by a little bit. I'm like WTF?? Oh I didn't know I had to ask permission to get in front of you. I look over at him give him a nice stare and he takes a look at me. Then I floor it and I blow by him. Passing him by over 1/2 cars length before the merge. It really wasn't even close. It's a shame I had to leave the poor Ford behind me in my dust.

We've got a few intersections around here like that. They widened the road from 2 lanes to 4 + a turning lane to allow traffic to turn off on the cross streets and into the corner businesses. Well everyone uses that right lane as a drag strip to try to race ahead and pass everyone. It pisses me off, the right lane wasn't put there for thru traffic or for people to pass on the right. I don't mind people who stay in that lane and travel at the average speed and signal to merge, but those who think it's time to light the tires up and race up there make me a bit pissed. I've seen a few close calls with guys in the middle(non-merging) lane holding their ground while those in that curb lane don't back off.
