2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Burning oil

Recommended Posts

My truck has been burning oil for awhile now, and there has be no signs of leaks under the truck. I have changed the valve cover/PCV valve, and the passenger side valve cover gasket with no improvement. This morning, a friend called that was behind me and said when I was accelerating they saw bluish smoke coming from the exhaust. Ideas?

Here is what I would do:

Replace the oil and filter with the recommended type.

Check the engine codes

Run a compression test or possibly a leak down test.

Inspect the spark plugs.

Possible causes of oil burning:

Over full oil

Incorrect oil type

Bad oil scraper (wiper) rings

Cylinder wall damaged

Bad valve guide seals

PCV valve issue (known 5.3L engine issue >>> see TSB's)

Bad intake manifold gasket

Bad head gasket

Cracked cylinder head

Warped cylinder head

If I had to take a wild guess, I would say that the oil level or oil service was neglected at some point, and the engine is warn out because if it - but that is just a wild guess.

Possible cheap easy fixes:

Replace the oil

Fill oil to the proper level

Use ATP-205 re-seal ( for the valve guide seals)

Replace the PCV valve with the updated part number

If you are still burning oil it from the truck going into v4 when that happen it shuts 4 cylinders of and the oil builds up on them ver time and it starts burn your oil so What i foind that help fix the problem is that you change your oil put 6-7 ounces of sea foam in with the oil run it for 3000 mile or till the oil is black then change the oil again then repeat the proccess 2 times
