cold climate front synthetic differential fluid

I had my truck at the dealer today. Finally had 500 miles on it and they adjusted my torsion bars. The truck was not level on a flat surface. While there, the dealer notice that the dealer that sold me my truck (250 miles away) did not change the organic front differential fluid to synthetic. GM says the trucks with 9.25 inch front axel sold in cold climates need to change over to synthetic fluid. They clasify cold climates as -12 F. I was not charged for the changeover.

Does this pertain to the 03 modes only? I changed my 02 front over a long time ago with no problems so far. I didn't get a chance to look up the GM part number for the gear oil. Is it the same as what the rear calls for?

I'm pretty sure that the fronts are 80w90 non-synthetic. Look in the back of your manual just to be sure. Since it's only the vent tube, i'm not sure how much could leak past or how high up the fluid sprays

My Haynes manual states that I should only fill the diff's within 5/8" of the fill hole if I use synthetic. Is this true for front and rear? It didn't mention the transfer case, I assume that I should just fill that to the bottom of the fill hole, right? Thank you.
