I am familiar with Wartsila. A branch of that company makes huge diesel powered generators. I installed a four bank genset made by them. At that time they used some very large Catapillar Diesel engine, I can' remember the displacement of them but they were no where near the size of the engines on that link. However they were rated at 900 Hp and was larger and longer than my Suburban. They used an air starter much like what is used in large locomotive engines. We had some rather large compressors and 2 large air tanks to supply the initial air blast to start the engines.
