6.0 cam replacement.

Have a technical question here. I'm working on a 2010 Chevy 2500 with the 6.0. There was a lifter failure that wiped a cam lobe out. Anyways, I installed the new cam and lifters, and I can't get the cam gear/phaser to mate to the cam. It appears the cam slides too far towards the back of the block and the pin on the cam won't slide into the gear. When I think I have it in, I start threading the actuator bolt into the cam and whe. It's starts to get tight the cam will just spin behind the gear. Strange! Any ideas? I already have the heads back on and have not removed the cam to compare it to the old one. Tia for any help.

I have never worked on this particular engine, but simply going by your description and what I know about cam timing, I would suggest you may have the camshaft out of time by 180 degrees. Camshaft will line up in 2 locations.
