chevy38fan Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Dad ordered me a brand new 2003 Dodge 1500 Hemi. I wanted the 5.3 1500 but, he could get a lot more trade in for his car from the dodge dealership than chevy, and chevy wouldn't come off their prices, AT ALL!!!! the dodge guys came off a bit, with trade in!! Can't wait to pick this thing up Saturday!! Looks like I'll have to find a "hemi" forum now, .
chevy38fan Posted August 22, 2003 Author Posted August 22, 2003 BTW, I am paying the montly payments on this thing.. so it's NOT a freebie..
99-2door Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 I would be pissed if I had to make payments on a Dodge somebody else picked out every month.
chevy38fan Posted August 22, 2003 Author Posted August 22, 2003 yeah but chevy doesn't have a motor that produces 345 horses in a reg cab. swb. truck, now do they? I've heard a lot of things like low end torque issues, but come on, I didn't get the truck to pull a d**n boat!
Casper5.3 Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 I think that wou might be wanting that chevy back when you start paying for gas with todays prices. I have 2 guys that I work with that are getting ready to sell theirs because they are getting 10-15 mpg with those trucks. Lar
chevy38fan Posted August 22, 2003 Author Posted August 22, 2003 i've heard on numerous forums it takes about 5000 miles for the hemi to start giving better fuel mileage. and I also heard the short box/reg cab (non 4x4) gets abotu 17 on the open road, and 12-13 city.. which is what I get in my Tahoe right now anyways.. so nothing lost as far as gas prices, and also it only requires 87, but 89 recommended, which is what I've been putting in my Tahoe lately anyways.. nothing lost!
gmcjoe Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 ...more trade in for his car from the dodge dealership than chevy, and chevy wouldn't come off their prices, AT ALL!!!! the dodge guys came off a bit, with trade in!! ... Good luck with the new truck Most Chevy/GMC truck dealers know they can sell there stock without offering great deals, Ever wonder why Dodge always has to offer deals to get people in them ;)
Ideeho Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Hey, to each his own, hope you like the new rig. My preference tends to lean toward having owned each of them. Got rid of my 98 Z71 and hopped into a Dodge, too stiff and bouncy, traded that on a Ford F250 Diesel crew cab, as I thought, heck there is a baby on the way I had better get something that's going to last forever, hence diesel...after fighting the steering wheel on that rig (it seems you are always driving big Fords, fighting the wheel), I opted to come back to GM. I guess having owned each of them, my personal preference applies to the type of driving I do, which is long hours on rural highways and backroads of Montana and Idaho. Comfort was the key for me. I ended up falling in love with my GMC, the leather heated seats, and that classic comfort of a Cadillac ride in a truck. I hope you are happy with your Dodge.
greyghost03 Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Good luck w/the new truck! I had a 97 Dodge and after all the probs I had with it, mostly tranny, I swore them off. I can understand your dad going with it for the better deal though. As stated before, the only complaints I have heard from other owners of the "new" HEMI are poor gas mileage and less than adequate low end torque. Enough about that, hope the truck serves you well. BTW - you don't have to find a HEMI forum, there is one here........ Other Manufacturers. I would like to find out your impressions on driving this truck on a daily basis so keep posting!
chevy38fan Posted August 22, 2003 Author Posted August 22, 2003 yeah I found that forum shortly after I posted this. and besides, I still have my mom's tahoe and my dad's 1500HD to ask questions about when something goes wrong . also dodge tries to appeal to those on a tight budget, like me, ;). Guess chevy don't care?!
kaspar139 Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Hey, good luck with the new truck! I didn't see you mention anything about it being 2wd or 4wd... which is it? Post some pics, do some mods, make it your own! I like a lifted, 4wd anything!
SilveradoWV Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Guess chevy don't care?! They have trucks for people on a tight budget! My '02 Silverado 4.8L 4x4 Z85 Reg Cab Short Bed was $21K, how much less are you payin for your Dodge!
Bruce03Silverado Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Guess chevy don't care?! They have trucks for people on a tight budget! My '02 Silverado 4.8L 4x4 Z85 Reg Cab Short Bed was $21K, how much less are you payin for your Dodge! I got my 03 4x4 4.8L quad cab LS for $24k out the door too...I shopped for a Hemi but couldn't find one under $28 or $29k for a 4x4 quad cab....now a 2WD drive you could get for mid $20k but I have yet to see anyone get one for less than $29k. A good friend of mine just bought one and paid $31k out the door and my manager's manager just got one for $32k out the door. I got $7250 off sticker with the rebates and everything before we even started negotiating. Dodge wouldn't give me much more than the $2500 rebate they were offering and this was less than a month ago because I just bought my chevy. Don't get me wrong, I had two dodge trucks in the past, 01 and 02, but I wasn't able to find a deal close to what chevy offered me. Ford was close but was still about $2k off. Good luck with it. It is a nice truck but too much $$ for me for a third vehicle.
Bruce03Silverado Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Also thought you might be interested in seeing these dyno numbers on a 1500 hemi......interesting, especially the air/fuel ratio http://www.dynoperformance.com/search_deta...ails.php?ID=488
chevy38fan Posted August 22, 2003 Author Posted August 22, 2003 its 2wd. getting it for about 10-11 K out the door.. then again.. it helps to know people, and have 2 vehicles you don't need to trade.. well was 2.. now its one.. damnit.. unless I can get it fixed today.. also its the FULLY LOADED SLT package. has everything on it, except fog lights.. bah.. don't need em.. lol.. I'll definately post some pics of it sunday morning.. (won't get it till sat. night.. my folks will get it before I will.. sigh.. it sucks working weekends..) truck was retailed at 26 sticker.. (non 4x4, and reg cab swb, so that' helps.. a lot..)
