Engine replacement

So I just purchased a 2013 2500hd with a wore out engine. I bought a used 6.0l engine from lkq, the engine is out of a 2015. My issue is, the flexplate. 2015 engine has the average flexplate I have on my 2004. The 2013 flexplate is the new updated one. I put the 2015 engine in without swapping the flexplate. I put two bolts in for the torque converter and engine will only rotate probably 90 degrees either way. What should I do?

How far in did you tighten the bolts?  You should have then run right down by your fingers and then torqued after all bolts are in. If the bolts are not run down all the way they may hit the engine.  If you put one in only a couple of turns, then ran the next one all the way down, pulling the convertor tight to, flex plate, that first bolt Wil now be sticking out and stopping the engine from being rotated.  To fix it, remove the one bolt you can get to, push the torque convertor back into the pump and rotate the engine so you can run the bolt down finger tight.

I have the two that are in tightened down, that’s why I’m stumped. And the bolts went in easy.

I wonder if you could use bolts that have a lower profile head.

I had thought maybe the bolts were causing an issue, but not sure if there is two styles or just the one. Even if the bolts are not the issue. The flexplate sounds like something is rubbing against it

Im not sure what is causing the issue, so I will toss a couple ideas out.

Can you make a spacer that would fit between the bell housing and the engine? "tin snips" and a sheet of thin metal?

Different flexplate?

You might be able to use a "snake camera" to get up in there and see whats going on.

Is it possible to have the flex plate on wrong side out?  Not sure if the flex plate is offset, but if it is, it may be installed wrong way around.

Part numbers are way off for using a 2015 flexplate in a 2013 application.

Take it out. Make sure engine turns completely over before reassembly.

How on earth do you wear out a 5 year old engine?

If it was a commercial vehicle it may have more than 200k on it.
