Air filter question.....

I was just thinking of a way to get more air into my engine without a FIPK or equivalent.  Would putting a larger engine's filter/filterbox etc help with mine?  I have a 5.3L, so would putting the 6.0L, 6.0L HO, 8.1L or 6.6L duramax help?

 

Can someone check their filter numbers?  I'm not with my truck right now to check.  ???  My filter numbers are A1519C or A1518C (High Cap).

That might help, but I think all the air boxes are very close, if not the same, size.  Not positive on this though.  ???

I think if you have the high capacity filter box it is the filter itself, not the box, that is the weak link. If K&N made a filter to fit the stock box it would be about as good as the K&N filter kit.

 

For my old Acura Integra I constructed a K&N to fit in the stock box by cutting up a stock filter and mounting a universal K&N to it and it made a noticable difference. (Also on the Integra I could run it with the box cover off, but that made it very loud inside)

I haven't looked into the possibility on my Silverado yet, but it is just about time to replace the stock filter, so I will thinking about it soon.
