TrailBlazer needs new tires - help

What have you all had good luck with? I have the BFG Open Trail TA OEM tires still and have 47K on them. They need to be replaced, driving in all this rain lately has become dangerous with the lack of tread. I drive 130+ highway miles per day, I need a tire that will wear a very long time. I was thinking the new Michelin SUV tire (pricey, but worth it?) or the Goodyear Fortera HL. Any and all input is greatly appreciated. Thx.

I just bought Michelin LTX A/T's and am very pleased. I finally got sick of the Goodyear Wrangler's that came with the truck (2001 s-10 crewcab) when I bought it. I get a MUCH better highway ride. I haven't taken them offroad yet. I only do some minor trail running to take my dogs to the lake and don't expect any problems. I only wish I had changed them 33K miles ago! Anyone with the original Goodyear's still on their vehicle - IT IS WELL WORTH THE MONEY TO GO AHEAD AND CHANGE THEM OUT.

Ended up getting the Cross Terrain's. Highway ride is greatly improved. We'll see how well they hold up!

I bought the Michelin XCX/APT a few years ago and got over 80,000 miles out of them. The treads were still in decent shape, but I had scraped the sidewalls up pretty bad.

Needless to say when I needed another set I bought the same thing. I bought them at Sears. They cost $88 each in 1998, $129.99 last in 2002. I think that is the Cross Terrain Tire that Sears sells for Michelin. If you go to another Michelin dealer they may not be available.

I would/will buy these again when needed.

47k on the Open Trails? I must have got a bad set. Mine lasted 25k and would not pass it's first state inspection. I went with Nokian WR SUV's. They are the best tires I've ever had. I've got a little over 20k on them and they only have worn 2/32. They are great in the rain and snow an also perform well on dry pavement. The thing I like most about them is that they look like a performance tire. I just put a set of there truck tires on and am having good luck with them so far. I think the WR SUV's were $97 each and the Vatiiva truck tires were $87 each. I've always like Michelin's, but they are just too expensive anymore. I'm not sure if Nokians are available nationwide or not. Their US headquarters is in TN and they are just starting to get a reputation in the Northeast.
