03 5.3L cam

hey guys I have been looking for a cam for a little while and I want one that i can put in and drive and not have to worry about it dieing in gear butt i want a pretty dramatic cam so i was wondering if the LS1 HOT CAM would work all else fails I have a 03 Z06 cam but i want a more dramatic idle

please help

I would get the hot cam just for the LSA. Either one will need new springs.

'dramatic idle' ???? do you mean a big ole racing engine loping idle that is on the brink of stalling if not given the occasional peddle? EFI engines don't really respond well with such "dramatic" cams. Give Crane, Lunati or Crower a call and tell them how you want your 5.3L to behave. They should be able to give you a profile, but I wouldn't think it would be an off the shelf one rather a custom grind.

There is a site...something like scoogin-d!ckey.com..they have a Z06 Cam kit that has the cam, springs, lifters, and possibly even pushrods for like $550. I have had my eye on that for sometime now and have even heard rumors of that kit producing 25-30 RWHP!

You need to go over to LS1Tech.com and ask. Those guys know their sh!t when it comes to squeezing ponies out of a LS1 Truck engine.

That GM Hot Cam is a tuning nightmare! Quite a few of the F-body guys will vouch for that. I got a Comp 215/215 .55x lift 114lsa. Its not where it needs to be yet. Also got some LS6 springs too. I would not use the stock springs if you cam your truck. Few people told me I should get a new oil pump. So I found a used but never installed blueprinted LS6 hi-vol oil pump. It isnt necessary but you can replace the stock crap pushrods too. Might want to check out your timing chain and see if its crapped up.
