Eaton 4.10 Gears

I found this auction for the Eaton 4.10 Ring, Pinion, and Bearing on ebay and it seems like a great deal. My question is can I just take off my stock rear diff and switch the gears out and put it back, or do I need the entire unit? What else would I need to do a switch?

The rear will have to be setup with the correct backlash between the ring and pinion gears. Unless you know how to setup a rear, it will sing like a Christmas Choir and will not last long.

If it is a 4x4 don't you also have to change out the fronts as well, or do something to the transfere case?

Don't have that problem, my truck is a 2wd

 

 

 

Also, I'm a pretty technical guy, and as long as I find instructions on how to correctly set up the rear end I'm confident I can do it right. I just wasn't sure if the parts would physically fit together with the stuff I already have, or if there are other things I need in addition.

Make sure the diff carrier can be used w/ 4.10 gears. Taller (small numerical ratio) gears use a different carrier than lower gears (larger numerical ratio). I don't know the exact ratio breaking point of this change.
