Holy crap. That is a menacing looking front. If I were at the helm of that tanker (looks like a tanker). I would steer hella clear from that crap. But man what a sight that would be. Standing on the deck looking right at that.... The wrath of mother nature. Wow!

Ummm....I have spent many a moon upon the ocean, and I have never seen it that calm, that close to a hurricane. He!!, surfers flock to the beaches in advance of these things because of the great waves that precede them for days.

My Environmental Science teaher showe us that pic over the projector, a girl asked "Is that a Wave or a cloud?"

Two funny answers:

 

Teacher replied scarcastically "It's a tanker".

 

Another student replied. "You said what? You freaking moron!!! You asked what that big white thing in the sky is!!! Wht kind of an idiot asks that!!! Have you ever seen a cloud before" He spit this off very angryliy in about 5 seconds in a rant fashion, maybe you had to be there.

That's exactly what I was thinking. That close and things should've been rocking and rolling pretty good.

 

With all those deck hatches it might be a bulk carrier of some sort - gravel, sand, grain, coal, etc.
