Well, your favorite moderator bought a new vehicle.  Mom's '00 Silhoutte "Premier" was not a good example of what GM has to offer.  I looked at my options and decided the best van out there for my wife and kids was a Honda Odyssey, so that's what I have now...

After 2 trips to the dealer with the Olds (once on a "hook and once bearly on it's own) the wife and I decided to "dump" it.  This is in 9k miles.

I took a beating on my trade-in, but I needed a vehicle I could trust, so I crossed the line and bought the Honda.  It's beautiful and Pearl Red in color.  It has leather and the DVD for the kids too...

I just had to "fess-up"...

Don't feel bad, I'm going to have to buy one of those too.  Can't talk the wife into anyother brand, she wants the Honda.  Did you have to pay MSRP?  Sounds like you've got the exact one my wife wants, leather DVD.

mikeb,

I don't really know if I paid MSRP because I traded the Olds Silhoutte in.  I got raped on my trade, but the used car market is flooded right now, so I don't think I would have gotten a good trade on any brand except maybe another Olds.

The best deal around hear for ca$h is MSRP minus the $440 destination.  From what I've read, if you can get one for "sticker price" you've done well...

Well least its not a hynduai?   ???  lol  Although its owned by foriegners its still made in the US, I guess so atleast your still supporting the economy.....  I will give honda this thou, they are dependable lil bastards, slow/small (most) but reliable.

It's OK Shaners, I got one of them thar Honder Oditty vans myself, or rather my wife does.  Our's is a '99 and its been real nice, but I haven't seen it for a month now.  It's been in the shop waiting for brake, transmission and front suspension parts after a low speed backing up encounter with a hunk of concrete that she did not see lying in the middle of a parking lot.  Smashed a brake line, broke the end cover on the transaxel and bent the left front strut.  She said it drove a little funny on the way home! :0  Anyway, like I said its been a good little van for the first 48,000 miles, but parts availability is not like GM.

By the way, compared to your old Silo, or her old (as in 1990) Grand Caravan the Odyssey is neither slow nor small.  Not by a long shot.    :D

These vans are nothing even close to slow.  There is 240 VTec HP under the hood straight out of the Acura!!!  And it is very quiet!!!  And for a high profile box on wheels it actually has very good handling...

I think I'll go down to the garage and pop a DVD in it to see how the video screen looks...

is that some crap the dealer told u?  acuras are rebadged, dressed up hondas.  honda created acura in the late 80s-early 90s, so everything acura was developed by honda

Yes Paco, Acura is owned by Honda just like a Jaguar is still just a Ford!!!  And Lexus is made by Toyota!!!  The list goes on...

No dealer will ever get away with feeding me "a line of crap"!!!    I've bought 9 brand new vehicles in the last 10 years, and am about as educated as a consumer can get when it comes to purchases of this nature.

When I make up my mind that it is time for a change of vehicles, I make sure that I know more about the vehicle than the salesman.  I also approach the service manager and speak with him bluntly and tell him that I have access too and have read all TSB's and that I'm aware of most common problems.  I make sure he knows I won't stand for any BS.

BTW, this Honda was actually the first new vehicle that I have bought that I wasn't able to get at or close to dealer cost and still get a respectable trade-in.  After one day of ownership I'm convinced that ths is the best minivan on the market.  It's not perfect by no means, but since I need to own one of these butt-ugly boxes at ths time in my life, I might as well get the best there is too offer...

More like a mercury than a jag, jags and LRs have little influence from ford.
