Converting in-tank fuel pump to frame rail type

Have a 96 K3500 Silverado that eats fuel pumps. On number 5 currently. Is it advantageous to convert to either a frame-rail type pump or under hood type.

If i convert can i use the original pickup tube and strainer sock and just eliminate the motor? How will it effect fuel pressure regulator or ecm? Kinda gettin tired replacing these. I used to have a frame rail type on another 454 vortec i built and that pump went 20 years. They say the pumps now days are all import. The last two i bought were oem delco. Any ideas? Mahalo.

Do you know what's going wrong with the pumps?  Running the tank dry is one way to wreck them quickly.  It could also be bad connectors, or crap in the tank.

I'm just saying you are either very unlucky, or it might be something else, as I haven't seen any other posts about pump's failing regularly for people.

That would be a negative. In tank fuel pump will out last a frame rail. I run a frame Rail on my 59 conversion and I have to run a high dollar Delphi to keep it going. With the Fuel injection you have on the Vortec the fuel pressure would be even higher. Are you using a quality in tank pump? and is the fuel pressure regulator working correctly. Could be the pumps are overworked.

The first two pumps were least expensive, next two Delco oem.

Tank is spotless as is strainer upon removal. Voltage has only slight line loss due to length of run. 2 new grounds have been added. On third Delco fuel regulator, tried to match when Delco pumps were installed.

All have same problem, fuel pressure drops to about 38 to 42 on hauling loads.

After 6 months I can feel degradation of power, then stumbles, idles rough, etc.

Throw in a new one and off we go for another 6mo to a year. Have changed fuel filters about a dozen times. All been super clean. All new upper end from injectors up, everything changed. I feel it's electrical, maybe in the relays or ?

Even had on scopes twice. At my wits end. Thanks

could the evap system be failing, so the pumps die over time from having to draw from too much vacuum in the tank?

I agree, could be the tank vent not letting in air.
