Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone knew how to go about routing out the edges of a subwoofer opening (10" in my case) so that the sub sits flush with the top of the box. In my case its not just for looks but because I need every centimeter of clearence I can get. (i have a dual 10" up-firing box that goes across the entire back under the rear seat of a 97' silverado x-cab.) Any help would be appreciated.

THanks

If your concerned about sound quality, id just try and build another box cuz the thinnner mounting point will not be rigid enough.

The flex, under large loads and loud passages, will keep the woofer from outputting at its maximum.

I doubt youll be able to hear the difference though but i wouldnt do it.

I made a box for 2 10s behind the rear seat of my crew cab. Using 3/4" MDF for my box, I cut the mounting hole 1" undersize, then used a 1/2" rabbiting bit set at the depth of the subwoofer height. To strengthen the box, I then cut rings out of 1/2" MDF and glued that to the inside fo the box, and added some braces from that to the sides of the box. You could just use 2 layers of MDF on the front of the box if you aren't pressed to internal box volume, but it sounds like you need all the space you can get. Also, if you're going to cover the box in carpet you can either choose to make the sub flush with the box surface or with the added height of the carpet you use.
