NBS Pickup vs. Tahoe 2-door

I'm gonna be needin' a new pickup here pretty soon. I was thinkin' either a reg. cab, stepside Z71 or a 2-door Tahoe. Both black preferably. What kinda gas mileage we lookin' at here, best buy. I guess its back to the ol' LM7 vs. 5700 debate. I don't need the room of the Tahoe, but its nice, and I totally dig the looks of the short cab Chevys. I guess I'm lookin' to spend between 12,500 and 15,000. Is this possible?

It's very possible within that price range.

As far as the gas mileage goes...I have been reading others' posts in several threads, and I just can't seem to agree with them.

I have the 5.3 in my 02, and the 5.7 in my 92. The 92 gets about 3mpg better on the highway, and 1 better on the road.

92 gets 15 mixed driving, and 18 on the highway (under 75mph).

02 gets between 14-15 no matter where, or how I drive.

If you like stereo stuff (like me :) ), you might be happier with the roominess of the Tahoe. Same goes for people hauling.

The reg cabs are awesome too.

Just your preferance. Good luck with your choice.

I have an 02 with the 5.3 as well, and I see around 16mpg on a steady basis. And like Wingnut I don't see much of a difference between highway and city driving. I don't have a Tahoe to compare, but I imagine it would be similar. A friend has a Suburban with the 5.7 and gets around 12-14mpg. His is a family vehicle, and for the most part he drives it pretty easy w/o the lead foot I use in mine. :)

As far as which is better...just depends on what you like. You will probably get a newer vehicle with less miles and wear/tear if you go for the regular cab if you have a set budget. Also, you get the ability to haul things in the back of the truck, which is a big factor for many. Lastly, you will get a little better hp/weight ratio which will make the regular cab feel more powerful.

On the other hand the Tahoe will offer more room and luxury. Also, in my part of the world, they hold their values better than a regular cab. It seems only small group of people like regular cabs. Most prefer ext. cabs or the larger Tahoes or Suburbans.

To be honest, I've owned a regular cab before and I was always cramped. Not that I haul alot of people or things, but situations would always come up. When it came time to get rid of it, I looked hard at the Tahoes but couldn't afford them. So for me, the ext. cab became an excellent choice. Just enough room to haul extra people when the need arises w/o being a taxi service. A place to put all the crap you somehow end up with in your truck. And excellent for long journeys to stick a cooler in the backseat with all your cloths, etc. so you can make the best time possible and keep refreshed on your trip.

Given your 2 choices, I would take the Tahoe. But you may want to look at some ext. cabs to see if that is your "in-between" choice. Who knows.

Good luck,

NoLimits

Well my stand on this particular subject is easy to see

I love my 2-door Tahoe, I am disappointed that the New body style isn't available in this configuration. I have owned regular cab trucks, an ext. cab, and 2 different 2-door Tahoes. I loved the extended cab Z-71 for it's versatility (decent towing, good cab room, bed room), but I missed the maneuverability of the regular cab SB. I bought a 95 2-door Tahoe Z-71 LT and I loved it, plenty of room inside, much nicer than any extended cab truck, more options for stereo install. Absolutely amazing in the mud and snow (what little we have here), tighter turning radius than a reg cab short bed truck, plus just generally cool. At least I have always liked them. I jumped at the oppurtunity to get the 99 that I have now. With the vortec 350 and Autotrac it is a much nicer vehicle than the 95 was. They added a lot of things over those few years, including better sound proofing. I will admit that the Tahoe is limited in the towing and hauling areas. The 2-doors tow trailers exceptionally bad, their wheelbase is just too short. I occasionally haul a boat or jet-ski with mine and it handles them fine, but I reserve the heavy loads for the 3500. Once you trailer with a 1-ton you will kick rocks at any 1/2 ton though.

My advice? If you go for the 2-door Tahoe shoot for a 96-99. In that price range you should be able to hit at least 96 4x4. Heck I would sell mine in that range somewhere, but I would be reluctant to part with it. It is the nicest daily driven vehicle I have ever had and suits me the best. I get more compliments from the 99 than I have from my other vehicles combined, they are somewhat rare here and since mine is customizied a little it really stands out.

Hell yea. I knew it'd be a rout from the start. When Stoops's Troops scored as quick as they did, I knew the game was over with. Boomer Sooner!!

As for my truck situation I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. Do to my unfortunate situation regaurding some legal mumbo jumbo gettin' a new truck is pretty much out of the question. I'm actually havin' a lot of brake trouble with my current 94. I'm just gonna go ahead and replace the brakes on the one I've got and drive until I'm back on my feet. Thanks fellas. I will be looking for something soon though, but I might have to wait awhile before I can get another truck  I've been lookin' at older Monte Carlos...might have to get a car. :D

Without doubt the 2 door Tahoes rocked.

And I too was disappointed at GM's decision to can them for the newer models. :) In my part of the world, the 2 doors are a rare find. Seemed like all the ones I looked at was either ratted out, or the dealership/owners wanted too much $$ for them. Or if I found one that was nice and decent priced, then it would be a color I couldn't live with.

In short, it wasn't my time to own one I guess. That's when I ended up buying my 02 extended cab brand new. And honestly I would have considered a new 4 door Tahoe, but at the time they were out of my budget.

Oh well, here's to hoping for a 2 door version when it's time to upgrade. :D

I really got a kick out of hearing the Boz bash Texas. That was almost like the icing on the cake. That is one thing that hasn't changed about him...his hate for Texas...hehe. I just hope we can hold it together through the OSU game. It seems no matter how good we are, that is the game where things go south in a hurry. At least we got the home field advantage....of course I could get free tickets if it was in Stillwater.

Sorry to hear some legal crap shot down your deal. Of course, a brake job is alot cheaper than a new vehicle. It doesn't feel quite as satisfying, but the comfort of knowing a new one in the future makes it easier. Wish you luck on the whole deal, and even though some Monte's are cool...I understand how painful it would be to go back to a car and hope it doesn't come to that.

Again, good luck!!

Thanks everyone...appriciate the advice. I think I'm just gonna ride the storm out on the 94' until I can swing something nice. I'm really excited about the 04' Colorados. Who knows...thanks again everyone.
