I have a 1979 K10 sbc 400 stock with 1 7/8 headers, no cats, 2.25” dual exhaust, total timing 34 degrees, edelbrock 1406. 3:73 gears, posi, turbo hydra-matic 3 speed. 33” BFG all terrain. NP 203 transfer case with mile marker kit to convert from full time 4x4 to part time with locking hubs. Speedo adjusted for larger tires.

I live at 7k feet and have carburetor tuned to the best of my ability. Plugs are Carmel brown on tip. I get 7 - 8 mpg in town and 10 - 11 highway if I drive 65.

Would like to go to efi but don’t really want to spend 1k+. Truck has dual saddle tanks with 3 port switch. Anyone do an similar conversion?

Was it worth it?

It runs ok with the carb but cold drive ability sucks and you smell some unburnt fuel since it’s a carb.

Thought about ls swap but would like to keep original as possible. Maybe a 4l60 swap in the future and engine rebuild since it smokes on startup (valve seals).

I haven't tried it personally but I know a few people that have installed the Holley EFI kits and liked them. I don't know the price off hand though.
