Oil pressure...

2012 Silverado, 5.3, 159,000 miles. Driving to work this morning, I always do an occasional gaze at my gauges. Noticed my oil pressure was down. I was cruising on interstate, and it's usually just a tick below 40.. it was halfway between 40 and the next mark down. Turned the radio down, no odd noises, nobody knocking to get out. I gave it some gas, rpm's went up, oil pressure went up slightly. Pulled off at my exit, came to a stop at the bottom of the ramp, gauge went down just a little below where it is at idle. Drove fine, no issues. Parked it at work and came back out about an hour later. Checked the oil level (yes, I do understand oil pressure and oil level are not necessarily related). Down about 1 quart, where it usually falls before I get an oil change. I did notice it has been leaking a bit, I think it's a rear main seal. Ugh...

Need to try and swing by the dealership for an oil change tomorrow or Wednesday, my buddy is a service tech where I go. He's going to investigate further. Happy New Year.. said no one ever.

Could be a filter issue or even the screen under the oil pressure sensor that is slightly plugged. Giving you a low reading.

Just guess's anyway.

I wouldn't worry too much if there isn't an obvious problem and the engine isn't ticking from lack of oiling. I ran mine at 20 psi at rpm and almost 0 at idle for over a year before I had to swap the engine.

Lost my keys to the Mini and had to order new ones. $440. Happy New Year....

I paid more attention to it this morning. Start up oil pressure is normal, driving at interstate speed it reads about 10 psi below where it normally does. Idle pressure is normal too.

Update: Had the oil changed last week, oil pressure has returned to normal at start up and normal driving. Weirdest thing... my buddy said everything looked normal. Guess I have to drive it a few more years...
