Extending rear view camera

Was that a lot of work? Did you remove the camera from the tailgate or wire a new camera? I just got a popup camper on my Silverado 3500 and would like to do something similar.

I am also wanting to relocate/ replace this camera for a smartcap. I'm going to look into this camera but from a Yukon. Thinking this should eliminate most of the blind spot.
