Anyone Tried Digital Tongue Weight Scale?

I'm interested in the Betterweigh made by CURT. It's a digital towing scale that fits in your OBD2 and connects to your smartphone. Apparently it gives you the gvw, gcvw with a trailer, payload, tongue weight and has some other features. Seems really convenient and cheaper than other tongue weight scales.

Has anyone tried it yet? It seems like the same thing as the Haul Gauge.

Here's a quick vid, if you're unfamiliar: https://www.curtmfg.com/betterweigh

Buy it and tell us how it works! I'm a little skeptical, but I've been wrong before!

I use the "story pole" method. Park your truck on a level spot and mark front and rear references points on a stick. Hook up your trailer and adjust the hitch, a scale is the best way, and remark your stick with the new reference points. Using the stick you can tell at a glance when you hook the trailer or load the bed if any weight distribution has changed. It's surprising how putting a little weight in the bed changes things compared with how little filling my rear 80 gallon fresh water tank does.

sounds like at best it can provide a guesstimate of how loaded your truck is.  most likely the information will be presented as if the values are exact, when they could easily be off by a lot.

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
