Alldata + Compatible OBD2 scanner?

Recommended Posts

I'm finally purchasing an Alldata membership for my 2003 Silverado to help guide me through repairs, etc. I hear it has a lot of scan capabilities beyond just resetting the check engine light built in.

What interface is compatible (and inexpensive) for connecting the Alldata software on my notebook/tablet to my OBD2 port?

Or is there a better (cost effective) solution instead of Alldata? I'm getting it for $19.95 for the whole year, seems like a great deal...but I need to find a way to communicate with it to fully utilize the software.  P.s. I cannot afford the factory service manuals so that's out of the question.

Thanks

Can you maybe post a link to what you purchased?

If you got a subscription at alldatadiy.com, that (at least this is my understanding) is a subscription to the full service manual for the truck, and has nothing to do with software for scanning codes from your vehicle.

If you want a scanner that gets codes from all the computers in your truck, you want something like a tech ii (they aren't that expensive anymore) or autogenuity w gm enhancement (software + usb to obdii cable).

Thanks bud. I was misinformed that the alldatadiy included scan capabilities. I was thinking that was far too good to be true for that price. Anyways I'm still very happy with the alldatadiy for having access to to proper instructions on repairing the truck. Still a great deal. I'll look into the tools you mentioned. My mechanic should have those I'm gonna ask him because I know he has a snap on tool but that might not mean much for my truck.

AllDataDIY is the shop manual which was written to work in conjunction with the Tech-2 and other GM specialty tools.

If you want to use a laptop, you can get a VXDIAG NANO to interface with your computer which will have to run Tech2Win to talk to your truck.
