DFM/AFM Concerns

I am reading and hearing about lifter problems in the AFM engines. How big of a concern is this? Has DFM corrected or improved any issues? I have been a huge fan of GM, but am hesitant to buy a new Silverado because of these DOD systems.

Eh, if they were a huge issue, you'd see thousands on here complaining about it. If you get a new truck, and maintain it well from the start, I think you'll be in good shape.  If you get a slightly used truck you still have a chance.  There is some maintenance stuff I'll recommend.

If you’re a freak and worry too much, change your oil at 3,000 miles. Yes it’s excessive but who cares! It’s not that pricey and you can’t go wrong doing it. My mother in laws Ford Edge has 220k on it and she changed it ever 3k miles. Seems excessive but last month i was doing valve covers and you could eat off the head it looked factory fresh.

I have a 2014, 5.3 Silverado, and I just had to have the engine rebuilt Bc of AFM issues, and had it deleted out and all the lifters replaced with non-AFM OEM ones. It had just hit 150k miles.
If you are good with spending a few thousand+ and having a real v8 after that I’d go for it. Also, if you have a really low mile he truck you can have just the computer tune it out and keep up with maintenance well and I hear people do good with that.

Have a good one!
