What are we ever gonna do with our wayward son?

i can't afford that!  if i get one (money permitting) i would get an xlt, then do a serious chop job and make it a 2 door.  then i would get it painted completely black, put it on some 22" rims and get some nice lo-pros for it.

there is actually at least one expedition club that does take these things off-road...and i mean like serious off-roading.

lemme ask you a question...does your xterra go off-road?  if so you are part of the 10% that uses these things for the reasons they were invented.  about 60% are yuppies who just want the image.  and i am part of an increasing group that sees the customizing potential of these.

It's seen it's share of gravel and red clay so far. But that's beside the point, it's a 2WD.

If I want a 4x4 then it better be able to do what any other 4x4 can do. I just don't see that happening with an Expedition.

Just my opinion, but if I was going to hit the trail a giant SUV wouldn't be my vehicle of choice no matter what.  It's too top heavy, too long of a wheel base, and heavy.  This is not just the expedition, but pretty much all the big SUV's on the market.

However, if you are doing light off-roading with it, I highly doubt you'd hit any real problems because of a fully independent suspension.  These vehicles are made to spend most of there time on the road, and that's why they have IRS, because you want the smoothest ride possible.

almost anything can go off-road, some cars just aren't as good.  ive taken a rented taurus off-road before, it was fun (really muddy logging trail)
