have a problem with  my 1978 GMC 1/2 ton truck, i can not  get it to turn over. the other day April 15 2020 i starter up my  truck and when uptown, started up again to go  to post office, started it up again to go home, starter it up again to load   to go to recycle  bin  for  paper, then when home  again

later in afternoon i  what to  start  truck up  again  but it would not turn over, but at that time i did have radio and signal light. but next morning when i tried  again none of the  above  worked, but head light  worked, it  should it a new  battery a little more  then 4  mos  old ( tested it and it  OK )

remove the key lock ignition switch from steering  col, and one thin i did notice the key lock had no spring  back, no resistance, of which i replace  2 year a go when it broke apart inside  steering  col, of which i failed to remove the  steel clamp from old one and replace  the  lock with a new one insdie   steering  col, now i thin that small part has come  back to cause me some grief

I'd be checking both battery cables on both ends to make sure they're clean and tight. Also check the purple wire at the starter - make sure it's attached to the solenoid, and has 12v there when someone is turning the key to the start position.

If all that checks out, you can jump the solenoid terminals (from battery, direct to the starter motor) with a screwdriver to see if it cranks. If you get alot of sparks but no movement, it's time for a new starter.
