05 Silverado clanking when accelerating over a certain speed and sometime breaking

The other day on the highway if I went over 75mph I would hear a noise every now and then that sounded like driving over a reflector in the road. The following day is was more frequent and louder over 70mph. Every day it seems to drop 10mph. If I stay under 45 there is no noise but as soon as I hit 46 it’s an aggressive clanking noise. Any ideas

Where does the sound come from?

Front differential?

Rear Differential?

Transfer case?

Transmission?

Engine?

Front wheel?

Rear wheel?

It’s not the engine or transmission. Think of the sound when you go over a reflector in the road and amplify it. My mechanic thought it was the drive shaft u joints from talking to him but after he heard it he wants to replace the rear end cause he “thinks it could be that.” I don’t want to shell out $600-$700 for could be that. Doesn’t make any noise till I’m going over 45 so I don’t know where it’s coming from but feels under the drives side seat
