I recently noticed that the horn on the truck works intermittently. Now it doesn’t work at all. Funny thing is that when I arm the security alarm, the horn sounds. So I’m thinking the horn works, but not when I press on it on the steering wheel. What could be wrong? Thanks in advance.

The clockspring (odd name, but it's the special wire harness setup in the steering column that supports the connection to the horn/other electrical bits on the steering wheel, that keeps working as the steering wheel rotates left and right.

If the steering system gets disconnected, and the steering wheel is rotated too far, the clockspring will get damaged.

Anyway, that's where I would start, testing the horn button and the connectors there (as it may be the button itself), then test at the other end of the clockspring harness, Then, if it turns out to be the clockspring harness, replace it.

You could also try pressing and holding the horn pad/switch while turning the steering wheel from lock to lock and see if the horn sounds intermittently.  If it does sound on and off while turning the steering wheel it is likely the clockspring.

It’s not a clock spring

The horn contacts on the steering wheel go bad on the 800’s all the time. common cheap easy repair

Noob at this non engine related thing. How do I go about and cleaning the contacts. I know I have to remove the horn panel from the steering, but where do I start? Is there are pics that I can follow or a step by step thing. I’m bad with electrical components. Thank you

...or sign up for the full-service manual at a variety of online sites, such as alldatadiy.com  It's not that expensive, includes how to properly disable the air bag system so it doesn't blow up in your face.

I highly recommend it, if you plan on keeping and working on your vehicle.
