Ok so I have a 1998 chevy k1500 with the 350 ext. Cab short bed the radio never worked in here and I just put in a new radio and speakers it still doesn't work can anyone help me with this

Start with checking the fuse block.  Ensure you have power at the fuse blocks (there is the one in the cab and another under the hood).  Then check fuse(s).  If fuse(s) are good, then move to wiring...check power at the connector to radio (probably need a wiring diagram to find which one is power). 

 

Good thing about those "older" trucks is that you don't need any extra modules or anything to make the radio work...just power to radio, ground, and wiring to the speakers.  If all else fails, you can always run new wiring from fuse block to radio if needed.

You can check speakers using a AA battery on the pre-built-in radios.  Find the two wires going to the speaker, unplug the connector, connect one wire to the base of the battery, and just scratch the other wire over the other end of battery.  You should hear a scratchy sound from that speaker.  Do not hold both wires to the battery, you won't hear anything, and you will just be wasting time and money.  Doing this will not hurt the speaker.
