Reclining Seat

Hey guys,

first off, I don't really get to talk here much, but this is a great site and I have learned tons about my new truck.

question- is it possible to get the front passenger seat in a 2002 ext cab Silverado to recline anymore?  My 97 C1500 would lay almost flat and on long trips my wife is missing that.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help.

What model Silverado do you have?  If you have the LT, I believe they come with the electronic "anyway but flat" seats.  I wish they went flat also.  Sometimes those extra long things you can get completely in if one seat wasn't there.  Besides, the angle they do go, isn't very comfortable for sleeping.   :(

I'm taking a guess here, but they probably don't let them fold down flat because it is unsafe to drive with a seat in a reclined position.  If you came to a sudden stop the seatbelt would be useless.  Just my thought on it.

I'm with Jon on this one.  If the seat were to recline to the almost flat position, and someone were to get hurt because the seatbelt was ineffective, I could almost guarantee that some lawyer somewhere would want to sue GM...  :(

I don't doubt it either.  However, what about the passenger seat.  I'd love to be able to take a comfy nap on lunch break somewhere in the truck.  (I don't want to be obvious with my air mattress inflated in the back of my Tahoe!)  :(

Side note....Why can't people be born with common sense and a sense of responsibility?   ???

Neither one of the front seats recline flat anymore.  The vehicles will not pass crash safety standards with the seats that recline further than they do now.  Plus on top of that, seat belts pose a serious threat to life in an accident if the seat is in fully recline mode.  Too many lawyers......

Mine is a LS with manual seats.  I figured that the reason for not reclining all the way is submarining in a crash, but the 97, while not coompletely flat, went just a couple more inches down and I really miss that.  Oh well.  Thanks for the help

I've actually taken a nap in the back seat of my extended cab!  Not too comfy, but it did the trick :(

Kind of an extention of parentalistic laws; seatbelts, helmets, etc.  I drive I wear a belt.  I ride I wear a helmet.  My choice.  But when I'm taking a long trip (like 30 hrs west to hunt elk) I need to sleep in the passenger seat while my co-pilot takes the wheel.  I'm no safer sleeping across the backseat.  No sleep = tired dangerous driver.  Further, frustrated sleeper = whiney passenger => agrivated driver (no reflection on trips back home for the holidays with the bride  or :().   The purposeful design of a non-comfy sleeping passenger seat is beyond parentalistic, this is pure a$$ covering.

That about sums that up!  :devil:
