I can't seem to find this in the owner's manual, does anyone by chance know what happens with this truck's emergency braking system now that its electronic? Or is that button expected to be for a parking brake only and there's no emergency brake at all? granted a complete brake failure is extremely rare. if would take a neglectful owner to have the front or rear brakes fail and do nothing about it until their second brake system also fails, or a failure of one of the few common components of both, like the brake pedal itself, but nevertheless I would think every vehicle would have to have a functional emergency brake no?

I tested the parking brake while rolling at about 2mph, it will engage while you are in gear and rolling and brought the truck to a stop. Would it engage even at higher speeds in an emergency? and if so...how? You certainly wouldn't want it to just apply full braking immediately as that would likely lock up the rear wheels and put you into an uncontrollable situation.

I like newer vehicles, but there are some things that weren't broken and shouldn't have been "fixed" like proper analog gauge design, and a mechanical hand activated emergency/parking brake which you can easily feather to control your deceleration in the event of a brake failure.

Especially on a GM truck...I hope their issue with brake line rust is in the past now. on my 03 when I decided to have the brake lines replaced because they were just looking really bad, the shop said even though they weren't leaking yet, they basically crumbled into dust the moment the touched them. Total brake failure may be extremely unlikely, but certainly not impossible.

It's been called a parking brake for years now.  If your brakes ever fail, don't count on the parking brake to be Plan B.
