Power Window sticking on way up

Recommended Posts

Anybody else seen this issue? My drivers side door window goes down fine, but when it is going back up, it sort of sticks and slows way down on the way up. It is like it is binding up or something.

'02 Z71 Ext Cab... Still under warranty. I haven't seen any TSBs about this....

Ideas? It is going back to the dealer for a couple of things, so I will have them look at this too, but if anybody has seen this, maybe I can steer them in the proper direction.

Thanks!

James.

I haven't noticed that, however the darned windows are sealed shut every morning. I have to take a butter knife to break the frozen seal around the window just to give it a glimmer of hope that it may cooperate and roll down for me. Anyone have a cure for this situation either?

Move south???

I'm in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Tx area so we don't have to deal with that extreme

situation much... Thank goodness! :jester::D

Out here in the desert this time of the year when it gets a little cooler mine do get a little sluggish on the way up. Down no problem. The passenger side more than the drivers side for some reason. Been like this for a couple years now. I think they make some sort of white grease that goes in the window track. I'm pretty sure I had it done on another car and seemed to work for a while.

I had that problem on a '96 Tahoe and solved it by spraying

silicone lubricant into window track.

That's probably what the dealer will do. :jester:

Thanks for the responses!

If lubing the tracks work, that would be OK with me. I'll let the dealer do it this time since it is going in anyway and st ore the knowledge for when it is needed down the road when the warranty runs out.

During the short time I owned my 2000 5.3L Silverado, both power windows failed. My guess is the mechanisms employ some 'lightweight' components. If you tend to roll the window down regularly, it will fail (my driver's door window in the first year).

Power windows in these trucks are a known problem. My '01 is ok for now, but 4 guys at work have had one or both fail, 2 in warranty, 2 just out of warranty. One guy who had both fail, one a couple of months after the other tried to get them to pay out of warranty for the second one, they refused, he traded the truck for a ford. I said to him"you dont think any fords are in the shop for broken power windows?" He said he didnt care, gm just pissed him off.

I had the exact same problem with mine. It started after I tried putting it down after the first big snow here in Cleveland. Just got it back from the dealer and they replaced the Left Window Regulator(Part# 15095843), I guess a cable was fraying in there. Works like new now! Also got the "Steering Clunk" fixed under warranty. Seems just like a new truck again.

Well, thanks again for all of the info... The problems I've had with this truck have been minimal so far. This window is getting worse! It is getting really slow on the way up! I work at DFW airport and have to go through the toll booths several times a day. The last few times, I was worried that it would not go back up...

I had an appt. with the dealer for Thu., but had to cancel. will re-schedule for next week to get it taken care of.

So far my dealer has been great with warranty stuff, so I don't think this will be a big deal. Will let ya'll know how it turns out.
