It's been real!

Well guys I may stop by now and then, but I have not been too happy with my Silverado the last few months. First I had a real bad experience with the sales people. They took my leased car on trade, but never paid it off. Later changed their mind and refused to take it (it was worth what I owed so didn't change the loan on the truck) and I had to sell it myself. But I moved on. The 5 speed in my 4.8 never did shift very well, but I said to myself "it's a truck not a sports car, I can deal" Then the clutch broke at 55,000 and they insisted my 60,000 mile extended warranty did not cover it becase clutches are wear items. Hey, it didn't wear out, it broke, came apart. The GM customer assistance people were very nice when they told me they had talked to the dealer and agreed with them, NOT COVERED. So my $900 extended warranty was a waste of money and it cost me another $900 to get my truck fixed. This was three months ago and I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how to afford a new truck.

Well today I was called into the boss' office and given a promotion and a pay raise.

I will wait until after the holidays, but first of next year I'm bailing.. I plan on buying a new Nissan Titan, especially as the company just set up a corporate employee discount to get Nissans for basically dealer cost.

I am sorry for your troubles. But it seems to me that you are lumping all of the GM truck world into the dump basket. The dealer you were doing business with sounds shady to me. You should have gone to another dealer. There are dealers out there who do business right. As far as your truck goes, I am sorry it cost you 900 bucks to fix it, but if a broken clutch cable is all you have to complain about in 55k of driving, well sorry. If you think a Nissan is any different than any other vehicle manufacturer out there you are wrong. Nissans break down, their dealers are just as dirty, and I am willing to bet they have the same warranty issues.

All I can say is good luck.

Bill

P.S.

Just out of curiosity..did you like your truck?

I'm sorry to hear about your experiance... I'm sure it is not a common occurance, but I know it can happen...

Your dealer definatly put the screws to you, and I'm sorry about that, but that's life and I can't do anything about it...

If you buy a new Nissan Titan, that doesn't mean you have to alienate yourself from the board... In fact I'm sure that there are alot of people (including myself) that would like to have your opinion on your new truck!!!

Stick around and continue to enjoy yourself like you have in the past!!! I'm sure you will certainly have some valuable info from your past that can help some of our members.

The nice thing about GM-Trucks.com is that we are (for the most part) a very open minded group of truck enthusiasts that welcome anyone here to our website!!!

Sorry to hear that you have had a problem with your truck. I didnt even consider the 5 speed because it cuts your max trailer weight down by like 2000lbs, so I knew it couldnt be built extremely well, but stuff breaks some times no matter what brand of vehicle you drive. The dealer experience however was something that should have never happened. If you really liked your Silverado you should try another one from a different dealer, but if you are ready for a change hope you enjoy your Nissan. I know people who have had problems with Silverados and switched to other manufacturers and been really happen, and I know people who have had problems with other manufacturers and switched to Silverados and have had no problems. There are bad ones sometimes, but considering how many vehicles are sold, I think the ratio still remains good. Feel free to stick around after the trade!

I'll agree with the others and say at least give the General another look. You may have just gotten a truck with problems. As you've probably seen here, it's hit or miss sometimes; some guys have trouble-free trucks, others have issues. But whatever you choose, stick around.

Isn't the 5-speed behind the 4.8l a NV3500?

If so, those tranny's aren't really a top quality piece to begin with. I never understood why GM used them in the fullsize instead of the 4500. It wouldn't have hurt the tow rating and it could have been put behind the 5.3.

Sorry to hear about all the problems. My brother-in-law had a bunch of problems with his 96 Sonoma. Said he will never buy another GM product again. Well he went and bought the Nissan Frontier. He really likes it and in the three months he has had it he only had to take it to the dealer three times so far. It has all been minor stuff at least.

I hear the Titan is one huge truck. The only downfall I can see to getting it is the myth of never buy a first run first production year mode of anything new and has not been out to work all the bug out of. So hopefully you will not have to deal with all that crap.

Please stick around. This is a great site and Shanners is the man and correct in we all enjoy learning about new toys. Plus your past with GM might be needed to help out others with ? that you have the anwser to.

When you do get that new vehicle, are you going to run synthetic in it after break in????? :D I know of a good brand to use.

Just out of curiosity..did you like your truck?

It as not a clutch cable,, the clutch plate disintigrated, self destructed, while pulling out into a busy intersection.. Not cool.

I really wanted to like this truck, and really didn't want to go back in debt. The power and handling are great, the comfort is fair. I love the automatic lights. It gets 20mpg highway even carrying two dirtbikes (I know I won't get that with any other brand). I had planned to keep this truck 10 years minimum, but I just can't live with crappy trans and the memory of the truck's history.

I'm 45+ years old and as far as vehicles have owned several each, Fords, GMs, Dodge/cryslers, Hondas and 1 Nissan and 1 Toyota.

I have had dealer problems with every Ford and GM dealer ( I have friends and aquaintences from the local F-body club that have had trouble with every Chevy dealer within 50 miles of here), and major problems with every Ford, Chrysler, and 3 of the 5 GM products I've owned (the two good ones were a 68 Olds, and a first year S-10 which had an Isuzu engine). Of the Hondas, Toyota and Nissan, not one major problem.. If you don't have any problems, there are no warranty issues.

HiG4S,

I feel for your situation, really, but now that the truck is repaired, maybe you can give it another chance. It sounds like you really like the truck. I came across pretty harsh in my first post, and didn't really mean it to be that way. Good luck on whatever you decide, and if you do get the Titan, I would like to hear about it.

:sigh: I've always been wary of 1st year models too, but hopefully you won't have any complaints.

I went from a '94 Nissan Hardbody p/u (4x4 XE v6) to a new ext cab Z71 in 2002. I've wanted a bowtie since before I had my license and love my new truck, but I have no complaints about the Nassin (sic). In fact, my dad bought it from and if he ever decides to get rid of, I'd certainly consider buying it back. It did warp one of the exhaust manifolds which sheered a stud when I had it. I later found out that was a known problem that Nissan never really owned up to. On top of that, the local dealership simply tapped the old stud out, replaced it but never did anything about the warped manifold. As you may have guessed, it sheered the new stud too. It's nothing major though and after a minute or two after a cold start, the gap seals and you can't hear the small leak anymore.

I don't tell you that to scare you away from the Titan, but rather to confirm what others have said ... that there are bad apples in every make and that dealers and car makers in general probably can't be trusted any farther than you can throw em.

As for your trade-in situation ... how in the #$@^% can they back out of a trade if you've already signed papers??? If they were signed ... I'd have seen em in court. (Or at least threatened it, which probably would've been enough to make em honor the original agreement).

My $.02 ... catch some Nissan drivers that have tags/stickers from the dealership you're thinking of dealing with and see what they say about how they feel they were treated on the sale and afterward if they've had to have any work done. At any rate ... good luck and I look forward to hearing about the new ride whatever it may be! :nono:

The papers they gave me were the workup sheet and the deal estimate UNSIGNED, I didn't notice. The signed paperwork they kept and it disapeared when I went back, as did the salesman and the finance manager that did the paperwork. I got the "Oh, they don't work here anymore"

As far as the Nissan, my best friend has experience with a few of the Nissan dealers here and has let me know which dealers to avoid.

But to give it one move chance,,,, I've heard that switching to Mobil 1 in the trans will make is shift much better... Has anyone changed there own trans fluid and how much trouble is it? Remember this is a manual 5-speed.

    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
    • Thanks for posting, I'm sure it will help someone
    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
