4L80E service......

Gonna do a fluid change this weekend. I was wondering how many quarts I need. Also, I have heard both way, does the 4L80E actually have a filter or just a screen? I have been told the screen back flushes and wahes all dirt to the pan. Then I was told it actually has a filter........anyone done this yet?

I had mine flushed and it used 14 quarts.

 

There is no filter, only a screen. The Allison has a filter, but not the 4L80.

The internal screen is actually a filter just like any other.

 

The Allison has an internal filter just the same, but ALSO has the spin on external unit.
