Do they make a 2 piece rear brake backing plate so you don't have to remove the axle. I have seen them for 1/2 tons but not 3/4 ton. Thanks

The axles are a piece of cake to remove.  If you dont want gear oil all over the place, jack one side up while you remove that axle so the fluid does not run out.

I have an '04 3500 dually, so the rear axle hub setup is slightly different, but I believe your setup is basically the same as mine.  We have full-floating axles, and removing the axle itself is trivial, unlike the 1500 which has a semi-floating axle, and I believe needs the diff cover removed so you can remove some clip thingamabob to pull the axle out.

step 2 (step 1 being remove the tire) is to remove the axle, which is just removing the 8 bolts I think (might be only 6) in the center of the hub and then pull out the axle.

check out youtube videos on replacing the parking brakes, and that'll show out to remove the axle, then remove the hub, and that gets everything out of the way for you to r&r the brake backing plate.
